Michigan names six new Clean Marinas

The Michigan Clean Marina Program announced the certification of six new Michigan facilities, according to a June 25 press release. The facilities include: Algonac Harbour Club in Algonac; Lac La Belle State Harbor in Lac La Belle; Copper Harbor State Dock in Copper Harbor; Eagle Harbor State Dock in Eagle Harbo; Cedar River State Harbor in Cedar River; and Torresen Marine in Muskegon.

“I am very grateful to the owners of Algonac Harbour Club for providing the resources, and our employees for the hard work necessary to have accomplished this goal,” said William Coughlin, Algonac Harbour Club general manager. “All of us need to remain focused on working to sustain a ‘greener’ Michigan.”

The Michigan Clean Marina Program is a joint program between the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan Sea Grant, and the Michigan Boating Industries Association. With the addition of these six new facilities, a total of 30 marinas have obtained certification in Michigan.

“We are pleased that more Michigan marinas and harbors are working toward Clean Marina certification,” said Van W. Snider, Jr., Michigan Boating Industries Association president. “We are also encouraged that more boaters are becoming aware of the program and are searching out these facilities as places they want to utilize.”
