Floating Dry Dock in Boston

The Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina (BHSM) is now the proud owner of the only floating dry dock in the Boston area. Engineered by JMS Naval Architects and built in 2021 by Conrad Shipyards, the “Providence” is a 500-ton floating dry dock. The structure will provide a much-needed space for commercial vessels to be serviced without leaving Boston Harbor.

“This dry dock is a valuable asset to not only Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marina, but the entire harbor, allowing vessel owners and operators to keep their fleets running smoothly without the need for long distance travel to other shipyards,” said Myles Murphy, dry dock manager at BHSM. In concert with the 500-ton dry dock, BHSM resources also include forklifts, shore power and push boat assistance.

“This new dry dock will allow us to better serve the marine industrial entities in the Northeast,” said Marshall Greenland, property manager of BHSM. A year-round marina, BHSM includes 180 slips and a 50-ton travel lift. BHSM’s sister company, Boston Marine Services, offers services including maintenance and repair, paint, engine service, bottom service and more.
