Dock Replacement at Marina on Captiva Island
Published on October 24, 2025The South Seas Yacht Harbour Marina, west of Fort Myers, Florida, on Captiva Island, has replaced its fixed timber docks with new aluminum floating docks from Marina Technologies (MTI). The legacy fixed timber docks had reached the extent of their lifespan while sustaining damage from repeated wave surge during the hurricane events of recent years.
“After considerable research into floating dock materials, designs and manufacturers, we decided on Marina Technologies’ aluminum-framed dock system D-260 with composite decking and high-stability concrete floats,” said David Henson, development director for the resort. “We needed an attractive, highly stable and robust system that was designed for hurricanes and an 8-foot storm surge. We also wanted a low maintenance system with a long lifespan. MTI was the clear choice.”
Phase one of the project was performed in October and includes new dockage with accompanying gangways for 24 vessels up to 130 feet long. The main docks include a 15-inch-wide central top-access utility trough, 4-inch soft PVC D-fenders and corner bumpers and custom-logo 18-inch cleats (7.5-ton capacity) which are adjustable along the dual track system. Sixteen-inch steel pipe piles with UHMW sleeves anchor the new system to the seabed.
Dockside amenities include 480/3-phase power, potable water and a fire suppression system with vertical standpipes. New aluminum gangways are custom designed with a sliding mount system to ride vertically on the docks during storm surge events, ensuring no damage when the water level is over the seawall cap.
“We are delighted to provide our first-class dock systems for this gorgeous, high-end resort,” said Bob Berry, product development manager at Marina Technologies.
