PIANC Seeks Nominations for National Commission

With the retirement of one of its commissioners, the National Commission for PIANC USA (World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure) is seeking nominations for a new commissioner. The deadline to apply is June 30. The term of a new commissioner will begin on August 1, or the date of appointment by the chairperson of PIANC USA. Commissioners serve a four-year term and may serve not more than two consecutive terms.

Criteria for nominees may include one or more of the following considerations: a technical affinity to one or more of the PIANC Commissions (InCom, MarCom, RecCom, EnviCom, etc.) or the interests and goals of the U.S. Commission itself; regional location within the U.S. to facilitate member outreach and region-specific technical conferences and programs; or prior service as a technical representative to one of the PIANC Commissions.

Those interested, or those wishing to nominate someone should forward the name and relevant biographical data, and CV resume to pianc@usace.army.mil by no later than June 30, and it will be forwarded it to the nominating committee.

The duties of the U.S. National Commission include:

  • Serve as a delegate to annual General Assemblies and International Congresses
  • Provide direction to PIANC USA;
  • Support the association, promote membership, assist with technical meetings, and oversee a functional or regional area of PIANC;
  • Assure rules and regulations for membership, selection of delegates and administration are observed;
  • Promote PIANC awards;
  • Provide articles and information for the PIANC newsletter;
  • Assist in organizing technical seminars and other programs;
  • Seek to enhance involvement of the private sector, universities and federal, state and local governments in PIANC.
