ABBRA Hosting Refit Study Tour

The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA) will host a full day study tour of two Southeast Florida boatyards focusing on large refit and repair projects. The study tour takes place on April 9, leading into the Refit Conference April 10 to 11 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

ABBRA’s Refit Study Tour is a day-long mobile training course that takes participants on tours of two boatyards known for their ability to manage challenging refit projects. The tour will provide an in-depth look at major refit and repair projects and yard operations and gives the participants the opportunity to hear from project managers about the challenges they encounter. The tour will be hosted by Jay Mulrooney, project manager for Newport Shipyard, and Pam Lendzion, ABBRA executive director. The mobile classroom will give participants time to ask questions of experienced project managers, operations managers, technical supervisors and others. The class participants will meet in the morning to prepare for the tour before visiting the first boatyard, debrief at lunch, visit the second boatyard, then meet for a roundtable discussion.

The study tour is designed to expose participants to practical examples of best project management practices. Registration includes tour transportation, lunch and afternoon refreshments. Participants will be responsible for their own accommodations. Those interested in joining the Study Tour should register can find additional information here.
