AMI Releases Training Calendar

The Association of Marina Industries (AMI) Training Institute has announced their 2021 calendar for certification courses.

AMI will kick off this year with a virtual Intermediate Marina Management course (IMM) throughout February. This course meets twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. EST to 4:00 p.m. EST from February 3 through February 25. The course is held on the Zoom webinar platform—with a different topic and instructor for each session. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to receive a certificate of completion.

In addition to AMI’s virtual IMM course, there are two face-to-face offerings. AMI’s spring course is scheduled for March 7 to 11, in Austin, Texas, and again October 31 to November 4, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

AMI is offering two face-to-face Advanced Marina Management (AMM) courses in 2021. The first is March 21 to 26 in Charleston, South Carolina. The second is December 5 to 10 in Jacksonville, Florida.

A marina manager needs one year of marina management experience to attend the IMM course, which is a stepping-stone and pre-requisite to the AMM course. Candidates must successfully complete the IMM course and have three years of marina management experience to enroll in the AMM course. Completion of both courses qualifies one to apply for the certification in which they qualify for the coveted Certified Marina Operator (CMO) or Certified Marina Manager (CMM) designation.

The IMM course focuses on marina operations, policies and procedures. This includes marina law, emergency response planning, environmental management, branding and marketing, and human resource management. The AMM course, meanwhile, focuses on profit center management, financial benchmark analysis, regulations and permitting, operations, marina law, risk management and loss control, business strategy and financial management, and marketing.

Through small groups, interactive workshops and specific case studies, the AMM course examines such topics as profit-center management and financial benchmark analysis, regulations and permitting, operations, marina law, human-resource management, risk management and loss control, improving the quality and value of services, policy and procedure manuals, business strategy and financial management, and marketing, promotion and pricing.
