Clean Marinas Certified in Connecticut

The Connecticut Clean Marina Program, administered by the Connecticut Marine Trades Association (CMTA), certified Connors & O’Brien Marina and Port Milford Marina as Clean Marinas. Both companies completed the Clean Marina process that requires a marina to adhere to a series of regulatory benchmarks and operational best management practices.

After completing the checklist of activities, both facilities were reviewed and approved by a certified professional. Connors & O’Brien was certified by Matthew Reiser EHS compliance specialist with CMG Environmental, Inc. and Port Milford by Edward N. Sailer, CHMM, LEP of Sailer Environmental.

The marinas are the latest to achieve Clean Marina status through the new Clean Marina program. CMTA helped develop the program with input from all parties, public and private over 15 years ago while the program was administered by Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). In 2016, personnel changes and budget cuts at DEEP required that the program be managed by different methods and the two groups came together late that year to transfer administration to the trade organization.

“We congratulate Tiger LeBelle and his team at Connors & O’Brien and Keith Knowlton and his team at Port Milford for achieving and maintaining high quality standards at each of their marinas. They are a true reflection of the industry’s commitment to preserving the precious economic and recreational environment that are our waterways,” said Kathleen Burns, executive director of CMTA. Each facility was awarded a Clean Marina flag to fly at their sites.
