Fires Slow Renovations at Pleasure Cove Marina

The COVID-19 pandemic made construction and renovation projects at marinas more difficult during 2020. But Pleasure Cove Marina, located on Lake Berryessa in California’s Napa County, had another challenge to deal with as well. Wildfires burned right up to the edge of the property during the renovation.

The marina, which offers slip rentals, houseboat rentals, boat rentals and a convenience store, can accommodate boats up to 70 feet long. It’s located in a very popular area with many active boaters. To meet the growing demand for slips, Suntex, the marina’s owner, launched a multi-phase expansion and updating project last May. It selected Tiger Docks to do the work.

Tiger Docks installed several new sections at the marina during Phase 1:
• A 400-foot houseboat dock (36 slips)
• Dock #2, featuring 64 covered slips (12 feet x 28 feet)
• Dock #3, including 28 covered slips (10 feet x 26 feet)
• Dock #4, with 28 covered slips (14 feet by 32 feet)
• An 8-foot by 80-foot boat launch dock
Walkway additions

The California fires started while work was underway. “Residents of the entire area were evacuated. That included both Pleasure Cove Marina staff as well as Tiger Docks employees,” said Jason Howarth, Tiger Docks’ VP for commercial sales & project development. “Powerlines were burned down in addition to water lines being destroyed, so once back on site we had to come up with alternative sources for both until repairs could be made. Access to the site was limited as well. This all provided for a very challenging build.”
The first phase of work at Pleasure Cover Marina was completed in October. Plans for additional phases of renovations and construction are already underway.
