IMI to Host Electrical Webinar Series

The International Marina Institute is hosting the Electrical Webinar Series through the spring and summer to assist marinas in understand the many facets of electrical installations at their facilities. The series holds its second session on April 3 with “Ground-Fault Protection in the Marina; What is it and why is it now required?” from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Find out what GFP is and how it works, how it differs from GFCI, does it provide adequate protection and if shorepower is reliable where GFCI is installed. The session will be lead by Ed Lethert, a retired electronic technician, designer, consultant and instructor. Lethert works with the Electric Shock Drowning Prevention Association to promote ESD awareness and also assists marinas with ESD investigation and mitigation. He is now helping marina operators and boaters investigate and resolve ground-fault trip issues. Lethert is also working along with others to ensure that the National Electrical Code writers understand the marina and recreational boating environment when adding new requirements to the Code.

The next webinars will be “Why are boaters having problems keeping the power on?” held in May. In June, a webinar will be held exploring “My power was ok until the boat in the next slip plugged in.” Two more sessions to be announced will be held in July and August. To find out more click here.
