Inaugural Harbormaster Appreciation Day To Be Held October 8

US Harbors announces the creation of national Harbormaster Appreciation Day– a day when coastal communities come together to recognize and celebrate their local harbormasters.

Harbormasters are the stewards of harbors and the center of coastal communities. They manage the overall ecosystem, including moorings and docks, harbor uses and harbor users, and interactions between local, state and federal government.

Harbormaster Appreciation Day has been registered as a national event that occurs annually on October 8.

US Harbors will be launching a website dedicated to the day at www.harbormasterday.com on August 30. The site includes video interviews with harbormasters around the country, educational information about what harbormasters do, and allows users to submit stories and photos of their harbormasters.

US Harbors is also orchestrating local events around the country, along with running an awareness campaign about harbormasters on social media from August 30 through Harbormaster Appreciation Day on October 8. Harbormasters will receive a mailed letter of thanks, with a certificate of appreciation, along with gifts from the 2019 Harbormaster Appreciation Day sponsors.
