Marina Renovated on California’s Lake Berryessa

Located on Lake Berryessa in central California, Markley Cove Marina is home to watercraft of every size, from wakeboard boats to custom houseboats. The marina recently completed renovations that included the replacement of some docks, the reconfiguration of others and the addition of 118 new slips with rounded ends.

The marina chose Bellingham Marine for the design/build project. Bellingham built a new 133-foot, ADA-compliant walkway for B Dock and installed 16 slips sized for boats from 22 feet to 28 feet. A new, additional houseboat section for B dock includes a 45-foot walkway and two 14×40-foot finger modules.
For C Dock, Bellingham installed a 130-foot approach to the main walk, the 391-foot main walk and 58 slips measuring 10×26-feet. The company added a 120-foot marginal walkway and a 318-foot main walkway to the CA dock, along with a dozen 26-foot slips and 30 that were 28-feet long.

“The marina had a variety of existing dock systems, so one challenge of this project was to find a way to tie the new concrete floating docks we built into the marina’s existing steel truss floats,” said Bryan Hylland, project development manager, Bellingham Marine SW division. “The roof system was another challenge; we had to find a way to tie in the existing covered slips with the new roof structures to make it look good.”

Since Lake Berryessa is a reservoir lake, and water levels can vary, Bellingham used a cable and winch anchoring system for the new docks. This will enable the marina operators to move the docks further out into the lake if water levels fall, ensuring that they will have sufficient deep water for their operations.
