Marina Renovations at Port of San Diego

The Port of San Diego granted final approval this past winter to renovate the Harbor Island West Marina. Originally constructed in the early 1970s, the marina was long overdue for modernization when the project sought approval nearly a decade ago. Marina manager since 1982, HIW Associates awarded the work to San Diego-based general contractor, Pacific Building Group back in the fall of 2022, according to online sources. The project is estimated at $16 million and includes a host of improvements including 620 slips for vessels 12’ to 140’ in length, 16,000 square feet of new building space for commercial, retail and boating services, enhanced parking with EV charging stations, a recreation area with swimming pool and spa, boater’s lounge, showers, public viewing dock, waterfront promenade, and cafe, among other topside amenities according to the project’s website. Construction for the new marina is planned to begin in January 2025.
