New Breakwaters for Tred Avon Yacht Club
Published on August 14, 2025Tred Avon Yacht Club, along the Tred Avon River off eastern Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, recently installed new concrete breakwaters from SF Marina. Stevensville, Maryland-based marine contractor Dissen & Juhn installed the SF Marina 400 Series floating concrete breakwaters. Phase one of the project included the replacement of the eastern arm of the breakwater, while phase two replaced the western arm and 40 feet of cast concrete self-supporting fingers with rounded ends. Unique features of the new breakwaters include specialty electric sockets cast in the concrete docks for powering Hoyer lifts to assist disabled patrons when embarking and disembarking vessels. The marina also installed 4×10-inch timber rub rails, for the benefit and protection of the club’s many classic wooden vessels. The internal pile design allows for easy access on both sides of the breakwater and maximum dockage throughout the club’s eight-month calendar of dinghy and keelboat races and regattas. The calmer waters created by the breakwaters will also benefit the club’s junior sailing events.
