New Docks for Costa Rica Marina

One of the premiere marinas on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast just doubled its superyacht capacity, thanks to a new docking solution from SF Marina. The new floating concrete pontoon docks can accommodate two 300’ superyachts, two 200’ vessels and two 150’ yachts and are equipped with 400A/400V electric, potable water and other utilities in concealed ducts.

Marina Bahia Golfito is a secluded tropical gem,” said Peter Santesson, international project manager for SF Marina. “During the design phase of the project, we worked extensively with the marina owner, Enjoy Group, to ensure the new docks would complement the quality and aesthetic of the extensive upscaling they were undertaking.”

The new dock array runs perpendicular to the unique 36-foot-wide walkway and has three piers of lengths 295’, 197’, and 147’. Able to withstand substantial wave action, weather, and hard commercial use, the docks are, according to SF Marina, maintenance-free and virtually unsinkable with 2’ of freeboard. The individual pontoons are joined together with SF Marina’s innovative connectors that have a breaking load of 2 x 99 tons per joint. The piers are anchored with Seaflex® mooring hawsers, which can withstand a substantial drag force then retract to their original size. “It was natural for us to renew our trust with Seaflex and their elastic mooring system,” says Pedro Abdalla Slon, Marina Bahia Golfito’s marina director, who had chosen Seaflex in Phase 1 of their renovation and then brought them back for Phase 2. At the suggestion of Seaflex, the marina sought out SF Marina for a new docking system. “We chose SF Marina because it is a well-recognized dock company–one of the best worldwide,” he said.

Nestled at the north end of Pavón Bay in the village of BellaVista, Marina Bahia Golfito offers a state-of-the-art marina and accommodations among the tranquil mangroves. The marina’s location lies roughly 325 nautical miles from the Panama Canal and is a short 45-minute flight from Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José.
