New Waterfront Dockage in Charleston, South Carolina

Visitors to the Cooper Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, will now enjoy enhanced waterfront access thanks to new dockage provided by SF Marina Systems. The new facility aims to bring guest experience closer to the Cooper River and underscore Charleston’s rich maritime history.

The new system includes nine type 1200 HD single-cast concrete floating docks, ranging from 10 to 14 feet wide for a total of more than 500 feet of alongside dockage. Making a “U” shaped layout, the new system includes a custom 21-foot-wide landing dock at the belly of the “U,” which acts as a single post-tensioned structural unit. An articulating center joint connects the main landing with the two alongside dock fingers, providing stability while allowing the freedom to receive wave action. Internal PVC utility ducts safely deliver power, water and fire-water through the floating docks. The IPE hardwood decking and 3-by-6-inch IPE rub rails of the new system join the existing fixed pier dock with a seamless aesthetic transition.

“Once again, SF Marina delivered on time and with excellent quality,” said Mike Mansager, senior vice president of Lowe, the marina developer. “The floating docks at The Cooper Hotel incorporate IPE decks, exemplify the high standard and exceptional quality that will be experienced at this one-of-a-kind Charleston hotel.”
