October 2018 Declared National Hunting and Fishing MonthPublished on October 30, 2017
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service announced a new memorandum of understanding with the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies, the American Sportfishing Association, the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation to declare October as National Hunting and Fishing Month.
Under the agreement, recreational boating, fishing and hunting stakeholders are asked to undertake projects and activities to promote recreational activities on public lands and waterways.
The MOU was initiated under the RBFF’s “60 in 60” program that has a goal of having 60 million anglers in 60 months (by the end of 2021). To do this it is promoting angler recruitment, retention and reactivation to expand the number of anglers beyond the current 47 million.
