Port of Seattle Buys Salmon Bay Marina

The Port of Seattle has purchased next door property Salmon Bay Marina. The five-acre, privately-owned operation will be used to support the growth of the port’s Fishermen’s Terminal. The price was $15.6 million.

The marina has five docks with 166 slips that cover 6,547 linear feet of moorage. The acquisition will help the port to meet its goal of doubling the size of the commercial fishing area at Fishermen’s Terminal. The commercial fishing sector at the port generates $450 million in business revenue and about $40 million in state and local taxes each year.

While the port purchased Salmon Bay for $15.6 million, environmental remediation costs from prior tenants could cost nearly $900,000. In addition, upgrades will need to be made to the covered docks to bring them in compliance with fire code. The port is planning no other changes, except houseboats will no longer be permitted on-site.
