San Francisco Bay Boatyard Unveils State-of-the-Art Upgrades
Published on August 14, 2025Longer slips and a series of state-of-the-art upland improvements now welcome patrons to Svendsen’s Bay Marine, one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most iconic boatyards since 1963. Stand-out features of the project include California’s first ever eco-friendly yacht paint booth with HEPA filtration as well as a stormwater filtration system that converts to potable water to ensure zero discharge into the bay. These new improvements go above and beyond environmental standards and requirements of local, state and federal entities.

Clausen Engineering of Emeryville completed engineering for the docks and wharf, which were manufactured by StructurMarine of Montreal, Quebec. Dockside amenities include 30- and 50-amp shore power receptacles, 110 VAC receptacles and potable water. McNely Construction Co. of San Leandro served as general contractor for the project, while the building was designed by Anthony Tabacco and Associates and constructed by Metal Building Co. of Oakland.
Other new project features include expanded engine, rigging and metal shops, a dedicated mast rigging and repair zone and a larger boat shop for repairs and new builds. A new 100-ton Marine Travelift and larger marine supply store will also enhance the marina’s ability to accommodate clients. Svendsen’s Bay Marine President Bill Elliott said the marina is meeting a growing demand from both residential and commercial clients. “This expansion positions us to handle larger vessels and more complex projects while exceeding environmental standards,” Elliott said.

The boatyard serves several local business and government agencies, including the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Richmond Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, California Maritime Academy, Hornblower Cruises, Commodore Cruises, California State Parks and San Francisco Police Department. The Grand Opening was held June 21, 2025.
