Tahoe Keys Marina Officially Opens

On the south shore of Lake Tahoe in California, a historic waterfront community recently received a makeover with a new state-of-the-art marina.

A journey that began in 2021 with Suntex Marinas’ acquisition of the 22-acre property, the new and improved Tahoe Keys grand opening took place on May 1. Tiger Docks designed and installed the new system, which incorporates galvanized box truss frames docks, encapsulated flotation, cobblestone concrete decking panels and composite ban boarding. The new layout includes 269 double berths.

Before the project, the marina’s legacy system included steel frame docks with mismatched decking composed of wood plank, plywood and composite wood. Some of the original 269 slips were installed previously without local agency approval and were not permissible in the new layout.

The new marina took several years of design along with geological site surveys for the new pile and sheet pile locations. Final approval and permits for construction arrived in 2025. Upland construction and design was performed by Haen Constructors, with Marina Electrical Equipment (MEE) performing electrical design and supply.

Tahoe Keys Marina offers a full-service boat launch, travel lift and jib crane for sailboats, diesel and regular fuel, charter vendors, a water ski school and an on-site restaurant. A construction feat of a bygone era, the Tahoe Keys community, built on a wetland in the 1950s, is now a vibrant waterfront community.
