Workforce Programs Feature at Boat Shows

Both the Hartford Boat Show in Connecticut and the 113th annual New York Boat Show are featuring workforce programs to introduce and entice job candidates to work in the maritime industry.

The Hartford Boat Show’s Boating in Connecticut Workforce program will have an interactive job center to showcase career opportunities and enable job seekers to apply for jobs at the display. As many of the jobs will be from the 125 exhibitors at the show, applications will be delivered immediately to the participating businesses. Educational presentations and scholarship awards will also be part of the program. This year’s show, managed by the Connecticut Marine Trades Association, is from February 8 to 11 at the Connecticut Convention Center.

The New York Boat Show, from January 24 to 28 at the Javits Center in New York will hold its first New York Boating Career Day. The program is designed for high school and college students in marine systems technology, vessel operations and auto technology programs. Presentations will be given by experts from Boston Whaler, Kingsborough Community College Maritime, MarineMax and Regulator Marine. Following the presentations, the students will visit some of the 300 exhibitors. The show is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
