NPS Looking for Entities to Lease Two Texas Marinas

The National Park Service (NPS) is looking for someone to lease the Diablo East and Rough Canyon Marinas at Amistad National Recreation Area in Del Rio, Texas. For the past four years, NPS has kept the marinas open for existing boaters to continue docking their boats on-site, and to keep the boat ramp open, but essentially the facilities have been closed. NPS took that time to weight the options of leasing the marinas, revert them back to concessionaires as they’d been or instead, selling the properties.

Through a special use permit, NPS could authorize boaters to keep their boats on the mooring buoys or in the slips on-site, but as a federal agency they could not rent boats or sell fuel. This limited the value for boaters, as well as the overall value of the properties. Whoever takes over the leases would be able to add these services.

The NPS Office of Valuation Services in Washington D.C. is soliciting a contract for an appraisal of the marinas and a Request for Proposals will soon be issued for those interested in leasing the properties. Finding an entity to lease both properties is essential for NPS to keep the marinas in service.

Amistad National Recreation Area boundary extends 74 miles up the Rio Grande, 25 miles up the Devils River and 14 miles up the Pecos River. The U.S.-Mexico border follows the historic channel of the Rio Grande
