PIANC Seeks Working Group Members

The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) USA is seeking candidates for four PIANC Working Groups. The groups and their objectives include:

·         RecCom Working Group 220 on “Planning, design and operational guidelines for pumpout systems in recreational facilities” will work to offer updated classification and understanding of pumpout systems, develop recommendations for use of pumpouts in the design of facilities and will offer analysis of regulatory frameworks.

·         RecCom Working Group 221 on “Design guidelines for recreational boating slipways” will look at existing best practices and guidelines, recent advances in environmental design and materials, recreational boating trends and case studies, to develop into new guidelines.

·         RecCom Working Group 222 on “Design guidelines for floating breakwaters in marinas” will develop state-of-the-art practical guidelines for the design of efficient and safe floating breakwaters.

·         RecCom Working Group 223 on “Meaningful inclusion of fishing communities in recreational marinas—guidelines for planning” will develop preliminary recommendations for marina planning to incorporate fishing community members in tourist marinas.

To apply for a position on one (or more) of these working group, send a CV to the PIANC USA Secretariat (PIANC@usace.army.mil) by September 4.

Working group members should either be an individual member of PIANC, working for a corporate member, be an invited expert or a be a member of a sister organization. PIANC USA can appoint a (1) principal representative, (2) an alternate, and (3) a “young professional” – someone aged 40 and under – to a working group. The principal representative should be able to attend meetings of the working group, which are usually held in a European city, approximately twice per year. PIANC USA does not provide travel or per diem expenses for working group participants, so this support must be provided by the individual or his/her agency/company.
